A renewed Bitch and a BonBon

So sorry for the lack of posting – again. We’ve been sidetracked by goodies such as the Wii, the Nabaztag, as well as the holidays and other non-wine-related things. However, we were at a wine tasting a couple of weeks ago, where the wholesaler of "Bitch" convinced me to try the 2005 vintage.

If you recall, I wasn’t overly thrilled with the last vintage I had (2004). I shared this information with the wholesaler who promised to refund my money if I didn’t like the 2005.
First off, a lot of people have told me that 2005 is just a good vintage across the board. So it stands to reason that even the chick wines that I so dislike are going to improve.
The wine wholesaler was right though. This Bitch vintage (how strange it is to type that phrase) is much better. It’s heavy on cherries, a little bit of smoke and some oak. It’s much more palatable than the last vintage. It’s a wine I might even give to my girlfriends for a girl’s night out. And that’s the point, isn’t it?

Our rating:

BonbonsmallHowever, there’s another chick wine I’d much prefer to give to my girlfriends, and that’s BonBon. It’s a rose, with a playful, flowery label, and I really enjoyed it. I need to note here that while Kevin appreciated the improvement in the Bitch, he was not overly thrilled with BonBon. I suppose you have to be in the mood. I killed off a large part of bottle while hosting 12 relatives for a holiday dinner. It was incredibly appropriate. BonBon tastes like candy. I don’t know how else to put it. It’s flowery, fun, dark pink, definitely sweeter than a lot of roses. It fits nicely into its price of $9.99. I’d buy it again for a girls night or a night when Kevin isn’t up for a glass of wine (opting instead for gourmet beer).

My rating:

So maybe chick wines aren’t all bad. I stand corrected.

  1. I’m also a fan of the Bon-bon. It’s a great rose under $10. I was amazed at how buttery the wine was, being used to that kind of thick butter flavor in just the most buttery of buttery chardonnays.
