Cincinnati Wine Events: 5/25 – 5/31

Tastecincy
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It’s time to officially kick off summer! This weekend’s big event is the Taste of Cincinnati. While not specifically wine related, there is usually some good food, drink, and music to be had. Taste runs Saturday through Monday in a new location this year – on 5th Street in front of the newly redesigned Fountain Square. Here’s a downloadable guide/map of the Taste of Cincinnati vendors and layout: tasteofcincy2007.pdf.

Remember, because Monday is a holiday, a lot of businesses (including wine shops) may be closed or have special hours.

Harmony Hill and Kinkead Ridge are opening for the summer this weekend. Both wineries are open Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer months, with tastings from mid-morning until around 6 pm. Harmony Hill is having a big musical celebration this weekend (although I suspect there’s always something musical going on there) and Kinkead Ridge is releasing their summer whites.

You might also want to plan ahead for a jaunt. Next weekend, June 1 & 2, is the Ohio Wine Festival/2nd Street Festival in downtown Dayton. It’s a nifty open marketplace environment (think Findlay Market) that will be transformed into your favorite Ohio wines and vendors. The real party is Friday night, followed by the festival itself on Saturday afternoon.

As usual, it’s a big list of events, so we’ve compiled it on one
page for your reading pleasure. (For information on Dayton, you can
refer to Mark’s blog at Uncorked.) If you know of tastings or events that we missed in the Cincinnati area, please email us
and we’ll add it to the list.

You may note that the tastings in KY are mostly free, and the
tastings in Ohio charge at least .25. It’s illegal for a retailer to
give alcohol away in Ohio, so they charge you, but many times it’s a
nominal fee.

Tell them we sent you, and happy tasting!

Follow the "Continue reading" jump at the bottom for Friday, 5/25 -
Thursday, 5/31 tastings. Upcoming events that require
reservations or attracted my attention are listed at the end.

  1. Jen Rizzo says:

Hi Michelle! Here’s hoping you and the hubby get out and enjoy some of the beautiful weather this weekend!
I saw last night that the Bigg’s in Hyde Park (3872 Paxton Avenue, 513.619.5454) has tastings on Thursday from 6:30-8:30. I think it said they were $5/person? John and I were standing in the checkout line literally at 6:28, and we really wanted to go, but our cart of meat, milk, and other things that wouldn’t survive very well had other ideas.
They also have beer tastings on Saturdays around 2, and I’ve been to those. The people are always incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and they actually have a wonderful beer & wine selection for a grocery store. Thought I’d pass the info along to the keeper of the schedules! :)

  2. Shel says:

    Hi Jen!
Thanks for the tip! I already had Bigg’s for Saturday, but I added them in for Thursday evenings!
