The Great Lakes Brewing Co just got a little love in this past Sunday’s Cincinnati Enquirer, so I thought this would be a great time to review their India Pale Ale, Commodore Perry. I had a spare Commodore sitting around from this month’s Beer club selection from Liquor Direct.
Great Lakes Brewing Company became the first microbrewery in the state of Ohio in 1988 and the distribution area now extends to
Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and
Wisconsin.
Commodore Perry references the famous American naval leader from the War of 1812. He is credited for protecting the Ohio valley area from British attack by successfully repelling a large British fleet. The IPA honors Perry’s memory with a medium bodied, yeasty pale ale. This beer is now available year round and makes a nice summer evening drink.
