Not long ago I posted about Disney’s Ratatouille wine – a French chardonnay that was coming to Costco. I was pretty excited. What I didn’t realize is that the marketing folks behind the actual label were unfamiliar with basic laws. Let’s call it the Joe Camel Effect. You don’t put cartoon characters on the label.
Guess what? They put Remy the Rat on the label and people began to complain. Needless to say, Disney pulled the wine.
Oh well!

but it’s okay to put, say, a Kangaroo or a happy looking Penguin, or even a smiling kid on a wine bottle? hmmmm.
Jill – I agree wholeheartedly. Many wine bottle labels are cute, or fun, and certainly just as cartoon-y as Joe Camel. The Zinzilla I’m currently finishing is an excellent example. But Disney is really good at caving to customer complaint I suppose – must keep the masses happy. Personally, I really wanted one of those bottles, mostly for the label!
I would bet the folks who complained aren’t even wine drinkers – they just heard about the planned product.
