WBW #37 Announced: Go Native!

In August, 32 of us went "naked" with unoaked chardonnay. The next iteration of Wine Blogging Wednesday will be held on Sept 12 and asks us to go native!

Obviously, folks are having fun with the themes.

Stranger to Wine Blogging Wednesday? It’s the wine blogging world’s version of a virtual tasting. A theme and host are chosen each month and everyone drinks some wine. You can review it on your blog or send your review to the host if you don’t have a blog. It’s not a requirement. In fact, the only requirement is that you drink some wine.

I’m terribly behind at announcing this, but Tyler over at Dr. Vino is hosting the September tasting and is asking us to try indigenous grapes. That means no chardonnay, no cabernet, none of the big grapes. Get creative. This isn’t as hard as it sounds. Any liquor store in our area with a decent international wine selection and friendly, knowledgeable staff can help you out. Remember that Mavrodaphne I tasted a few days ago? Mavrodaphne was the grape, it’s a Greek grape, and would have been perfect for this upcoming event. Where did I find it? Apparently the closeout rack at Liquor Direct Ft. Thomas. So you see, it’s not that hard.

I’m either going to go domestic, but avoid the Norton grape, or perhaps seek out another Greek wine. We’ll see. Spain, in particular, has over 200 different varieties of grape from which to choose. All you need is a good Spanish section at your store and you’re set.

Hope everyone joins me on Sept 12, and thanks to Dr. Vino for hosting!
