Actually we did not turn a little house into a winery. People often ask us why the winery is not at the vineyard. Long story... an architect we hired in Cincinnati was not going to get the plan or construction done in time for the 2001 harvest. NOT ONE winery locally in southern Ohio would help us. We drove our fruit to Akron to the Winery at Wolf Creek for crush. We are eternally grateful to Andy Troutman for helping us. In 2002, in desperation, we tore down a derelict little house on the site and built the winery from scratch. It is highly insulated and has sloping floors with a floor drain. Sometime in the future, it may become a case goods storage facility, and we (or the next owner of Kinkead Ridge) will no doubt build a winery at the vineyard. Ambiance is great. But you must make fine wine, whether the winery overlooks the vineyard or not. That is our goal. To make the best vinifera wines Ohio has ever seen.
