Graeter’s Comes Back to Downtown

For those of you unfamiliar with Cincinnati, we’ve got a lot of quirky, original foods, including Greater’s ice cream. Can anyone describe why this stuff is so good? Aside from the traditional ice cream parlor feel of their shops, the gigantic scoops, and the chunks of goodness inside the ice cream … My favorite is peppermint stick, followed closely by mint chocolate chunk and of course, black raspberry chip (chunk). Yummy!

When I worked downtown, I used to love to walk down to 4th street and get a double-dip peppermint stick ice cream cone from Graeter’s. Shortly after I left downtown, Graeter’s left as well.

Last year we were told, via press release, that downtown would get it’s Graeter’s back once Fountain Square was renovated. Well, it’s back.

Opening today, the new Graeter’s is located in the Westin-facing corner of the 5/3 building, looking out on 5th Street and the Square.

The new store is holding its grand opening today and plans to be open from 6:30 am – 10 pm on weekdays, 7 am – 10 pm on Saturdays, and 11 am – 7 pm on Sundays.

According to the press release, "We are thrilled to make a
return to downtown," says co-owner/vice-president of marketing Richard
Graeter. "The large outdoor dining area on the Square, the view of the
Tyler Davidson Fountain and the pedestrian traffic around the Square
all add up to create memorable experiences for our customers."

I keep thinking the Kinko’s folks across the street will be thrilled with this development, considering the late weeknight hours. I’m also thinking that when we go to the Aronoff and park under the square, it won’t be out of the way to swing by Graeter’s on the way back to the car.

We were walking around Sunday and imagine our surprise when we found it open.
Can’t believe they goofed around all summer and opened it now.
