WBW #42: Just Seven Words

Wbw7wordsIt’s time again for Wine Blogging Wednesday. Andrew at Spittoon has suggested that we drink any Italian Red and then write the tasting note in Just Seven Words. Andrew was inspired by a program on digital radio BBC 6.

I did a little research on using Just Seven Words to express a thought. It’s currently a popular idea, thanks to Michael Pollan’s new book "In Defense of Food." On the cover he distills his entire thesis in just seven words: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

This has inspired any number of "Can you say it in just 7 words?" contests. The one I enjoyed the most was the NY Times contest run by blogger Tara Parker-Pope. She asked readers to distill sage wisdom in Just Seven Words using the 3-2-3 haiku like approach. Parker-Pope ended up with all sorts of fun entries, including

  • Seek wisdom. Think for yourself. Avoid maxims.
  • Know thyself. But not completely. Need surprises. (My personal favorite.)
  • Wear clothes. Not too many. Mostly spandex.
  • Eat pie. Very good pie. Not often.

And the contest winner:

  • Ate plants. A big heap. Still hungry.

LacourtAfter playing around with several 3-2-3 combinations, I ended up with 3-3-1. I also had some fun with a thesaurus, in search of the perfect finishing word. Cheers to hoping a haiku-inspired entry isn’t cheating.

Chocolate, berries delight.
Passing time, leathery.
Saporous.

Oh? The wine you ask?

Our thanks to Andrew for hosting an original Wine Blogging Wednesday. It’s fun to challenge the creative juices in different ways.
