Writer’s Strike, Writer’s Block, and Twin Peaks

Twinpeaks
As I’m sure everyone knows by now, television is suffering from a writer’s strike. Therefore, our Tivo is suffering from emptiness. It was time to break into our slightly overflowing DVD collection.

We pulled out Twin Peaks. I missed Twin Peaks the first time around. I was off at high school football games and basketball games and generally didn’t care who killed Laura Palmer. Kevin however, always a film aficionado, was a fan of David Lynch and thus we have the DVD collection – from both seasons to the prequel film.

What does Twin Peaks have to do with wine? Well, not much, except it was the perfect accompaniment to a bottle I popped open on Saturday night. You may have noticed I’ve been suffering from a bit of writer’s block lately. So when I saw a bottle of Writer’s Block Pinot Noir 2006 on the tasting table at Liquor Direct this weekend, I had to try it.

Writersblock
Writer’s Block Pinot Noir has some big berries in it, but it’s still a quiet wine. It’s tangy, with cherries and brown sugar. It nicely complimented a white chocolate/chocolate mousse pastry on which I was munching. The wine had hints of cinnamon and butterscotch, and a bit tannic.

It’s an easy to drink wine, and for the price it’s complex and fun. It’s the sort I’d like to take with me to parties and share with my friends. And it’s just subtle enough to accompany the "over-the-top-ness" of Twin Peaks.
My rating:

We hope that the writers end this strike soon. As a production company we are feeling the effect of the strike too we have made some shows that have come to a halt because of the strike. Let’s just hope they settle soon!!!

From one Twin Peaks fan to another (I actually wrote papers on the show in college!) I have to ask… does the Writer’s Blog pair with cherry pie?
