Do you like Maynard James Keenan? Itching to see or own Blood Into Wine, the documentary he released about opening and running his Arizona winery?
I can help you with that. I have several copies to give away over the course of the next month. We’re going to start this week. Please note that this is a regular DVD and not a Blu-Ray, in case your electronics fall into the “fancy” category.
Just post in the comments section below the reason WHY you want to own this movie. Try to give me something interesting, such as why you like MJK, or why you want to learn about his wine. “I like movies about wine!” or “MJK is so hot!” are not acceptable answers. Try to think of something astute and/or interesting, okay?
I’ll leave the comments section open through 11:55 pm EST, Saturday, Nov 13. Any comments entered after that point (in case I’m not awake to close the comments) will not be entered in the contest. On Sunday, Nov 14, I’ll use a randomizer to select the number of the winning comment. It will be totally random and is only valid if the winner meets the following conditions:
1. You leave an actual comment on this post and do NOT email me instead. Emailing won’t work for this. I know you folks prefer to email rather than comment, but just this one time I need you to use the comments section, okay?
2. When you fill out the comment form, please leave a valid name in the correct field, not a user name. Please don’t make me send an email to wineloverboy2506 or some such thing. I won’t do it. I’d much rather email Dear Emily, You won!
3. When you fill out the comment form, you must include a valid email address that you actually check. I’ll post the name and comment number of the winner on Sunday, but I still need to contact you to negotiate a way to get this DVD to you.
4. Just a reminder about our Comments policy – in particular, the part about being excellent to each other.

I don’t think MJK is hot, but I did enjoy Bottleshock and Sideways and I would love to check out this offering.
I don’t know about viticulture in Arizona and would love to own this movie and learn more!
I think the concept of wine grapes growing in Arizona is pretty fascinating. It’s certainly not one of the first couple places you think of being a wine growing region. It would be a good companion to Sideways, which I already own.
I’ll be blunt–I have never heard of MJK. However, one of my friends is a major, major Tool fan, so when I learned (on Wikipedia just now) who he was and his interest in wine, she practically had a heart attack–she goes nuts over anything even vaguely related to MJK.
So I want to win a copy of this documentary for two reasons: (1) I want to learn more about the challenges of starting a vineyard in Arizona, and (2) I want to see my friend FREAK THE F*** OUT when we watch this documentary together.
Maynard! A huge fan, though not specifically wine related. However, being a fan of wine as well, my interest is sufficiently piqued.
I would love to win a copy of this DVD because I love to hear about wine being grown in non-traditional locations and Arizona is probably about the most non-traditional location in the US I could think of, well besides Alaska. also, I think it’s great to hear about people who follow their dreams – despite the odds – and make it happen. I’d love to see how they are able to grow grapes in an arid, dry, climate like Arizona.
This has just set me afire, girl! I love the promotion of wine in nontraditional areas, and passion from a “non-traditional” region just gets me going even more. My region, Vermont, has as many challenges as AZ, perhaps more…but the truely amazing aspect is that we can all talk wine. I would love to see how they resove their regional issues. Thanks
I remember seeing the trailer for this movie and thinking, “Oh, that sounds interesting. Some obscure musician decided to coax wine from the desert.”
And then I found out that it was Maynard James Mother****ing Keenan. Lead singer of Tool. Confidante of Tori.
Holy hell, I want to see this movie.
I teach a hospitality program locally and one of the hardest things to do is create interest in a subject.
I think my students would be mesmerized by this film (MJK) and ultimately learn something (winemaking) and not even know it.
I’m a brilliant teacher and sometimes I cheat. -
