Meet Newbie #2

Hi, I’m Cresta Lewis, the other newbie. I too am thrilled to be contributing to wine-girl.net.

I am a fairly new wine enthusiast. Over the last few years I’ve been introduced to a variety of wines through friends, as well as during visits to wineries and at local wine tastings. Last year my husband and I joined a wine club and now receive three different bottles of wine each quarter from places such as Argentina, Chile, France, New Zealand, Spain and the United States. I have discovered some incredible selections that are often from smaller wineries that can be hard to find.

I am a beer girl too. Lately I’ve been smitten with Belgian wheats and whites and Urban wheats.

I was born and raised in Northern Kentucky and have never left. I do love this area. Out of college I thought I wanted to be a TV News Anchor. However, I landed at a newspaper as a Calendar Coordinator and Features Writer. Then I crossed over to the dark side and became a Public Relations Specialist.

I have been practicing PR at a couple of different agencies for more than 12 years. I recently took the plunge and went out on my own doing PR/Communications Consulting. I thoroughly enjoy what I do and I believe Greater Cincinnati is a great place to work in this industry. I am fortunate to have worked with a lot of fantastic clients!

I live in Erlanger with my husband and two children.

Hello there I’m One of the Newbies

Hello, I’m Angela Laible and I love wine and I’m excited to be a contributing writer for wine-girl.net!

I grew up in the wine world (sorda), my Uncle Richard was a Sommelier and traveled all over the world to sample wines, lecture on wines, visit wineries, and buy them for a national wine distributing company. When he traveled my family could always expect a box of wines shipped to us. My family never knew what country the box was coming from. I got to taste the wines watered down and my parents would explain what type of wine I was experiencing. This started the whole love of wines for me.

I grew up in Northern Kentucky; my parents started Main Strasse Village in 1972. I helped open 2 bars in Main Strasse; Cosmos and Zola’s. One of my favorite wine restaurants is located in Main Strasse, Bouquet; it is one of the best hidden secrets in the region!

I believe my wine experience comes from family introducing me to new wines, being a Mixologist and bartender for over 13 years for 10+ restaurants and bars (Waterfront included on that list), attending various wine tastings all over the region, and having an open mind when trying new wines. I’m also a KY bourbon girl; I graduated from the Woodford Reserve Bourbon Academy.

My Communications/Web Project Management consultant background supports my love affair for wines. I have a BA in Theatre Administration and I’m a CIW Internet Web Master. I worked in nonprofit as a Communications Specialist, Web Project Manager, Marketing Director, and Publications Director for over 11 years.  I’m now a Communications/Social Media/Web Development consultant and the great thing about being a consultant is meeting new people and helping them.

I live in Newport with my boyfriend Tony, cats Tigger & Hiro, and pug Sophie.

Changes are afoot …

I know it’s been slow around the blog. There’s definitely been a lot more action over on the Facebook page. But that’s all going to change soon.

First, I just took, and passed, the Introductory Level Sommelier course. I’m convinced they do their best to scare you to death as part of the training. I need to write up the experience but I’m still sort of processing it.

Next, I’ve got the opportunity to spend more time on the West Coast over the next few months. That means I’m taking more of  a backseat role here at the blog, and functioning more as a Managing Editor.

Of course, I need something to edit, right? I’m bringing on two lovely new writers, both with fresh perspectives and who are perfect for Wine-Girl.net. Like me, they’re not wine experts, but consumers, just like you. I’m excited about them both. I’ll let them introduce themselves to you over the next few days.

I will be chiming in periodically with things I simply must share, wines that simply must be reviewed, and interesting observations of a Cincinnati wine girl in California wine country.

I’m excited about the changes ahead!
