I just went out this morning and picked up a few bottles of wine to serve on Thursday. I accepted the fact that I waited until the last minute, so I wasn’t going to stress about it. I decided that I would get what I like while also making sure there was variety.
I know that certain wines pair better with traditional Thanksgiving fare, but there are also so many different flavors at the table, it’s hard to choose one perfect wine to go with all of it. And, while I do enjoy my wine, for me it’s more about the food! Here’s what I bought:
Robert Mondavi Private Selection 2009 Pinot Noir. Experts agree that Pinot Noir is one of the best choices for Thanksgiving dinner because it pairs nicely with the traditional spices of the season. Not too heavy, a little bit fruity. This one offers somewhat tart cherry flavors with a little bit of spice. Around $11.
Chateau Ste. Michelle 2010 Riesling Columbia Valley. I don’t normally drink Riesling but I think this is a good choice to have on the table. This is a medium-dry wine, well-balanced with noticeable acidity. This one will compliment the savory stuffing and the sweet potato casserole. Around $11.
Starborough Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010. I do like a Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough Region in New Zealand. I’m a fan of and have written about Kim Crawford but I decided to give this one a try. Frankly, I was drawn to the bottle. The green label stood out for some reason. This too has lively acidity. I know I will like citrus and tropical fruit flavors and crisp finish. Around $12, but I did get this one on sale.
