A Nice Red Blend from the Cape of Good Hope

By: Cresta

Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap 2009 is a rich, deep red blend that has been French oak matured. The blend includes 65% Syrah, 32% Mourvèdre, and 3% Viognier.

It is a very fragrant, spicy wine with notes of raspberry, cherry and mulberry. This one kind of grew on me. I wasn’t too sure about it at first, but after the first few sips, I found it to be quite smooth…a nice combination of fruity sweetness with a peppery finish. Very affordable too. Around $11.

The Wolftrap is a wine from Boekenhoutskloof Winery in the Franschhoek region of South Africa. The name is a tribute to the pioneers, who in the early days of the Cape of Good Hope, erected a wolf trap, falsely believing that wolves inhabited the area. To date, no wolf – either real or mystical – has been seen in the valley.
