A couple of weeks ago I received a special delivery. ALDI sent three bottles of wine to my doorstep. Nicely packaged in a re-usable grocery bag, each bottle in its own padded wine sleeve.
The press release that accompanied the delivery touted ALDI’s line-up of award-winning international exclusive wines, all at bargain prices.
I didn’t even know ALDI carried wine. According to the release, selections include Beverage Testing Institute 2011 World Wine Challenge Winners, Wine Spectator Best Values and Wine Enthusiast Best Buys. Here’s what I received:
Most of ALDI’s wines are priced at $4.99 or less. I checked ALDI’s web site and only select locations carry wine – most of the Ohio stores do.
Excellent PR idea, by the way. Great way to build awareness and word-of-mouth.

Considering that ALDI has the poorest quality food I’ve ever seen I don’t think I want to try their wine. Have you ever read the labels on their products? It’s frightening.
[...] couple of weeks ago Cresta shared with us that Aldi Grocery stores sell wines. I thought I would check it out, and what I found was a pretty great deal. I purchased 4 different [...]
Actually, I would like to defend Aldi does have some very good wines at excellent prices for example the Baron Amarillo, Riojca, 2006 Reserva. Selling for £5.99 in December 2011, or maybe £6.99, anyhow, excellent wine, worth twice the price easily.
Wow, I’d also like to defend Aldi food quality. I absolutely love Aldi store brand food. Being that Aldi is also the parent company of Trader Joe’s, and the fact that it is THE grocery store of Europe, I feel like the food quality is outstanding. The only thing I’m disappointed in from time to time is the produce, but it’s fine if you get it fresh. In all likelihood, I wouldn’t expect much from the cheaper wines, but it probably won’t stop me from trying a couple.
