Meet the Writer

Welcome! Whether you came here via Google, another blog, or through Cincinnati.com / Enquirer / MetroMix, I’m thrilled you stopped by!

I’m a freelance writer, instructional designer/trainer, and social media trainer/consultant. I’ve been running my ever-evolving business, Write Technology, since 2003. Since I work out of my home (and occasional coffee shops), I get to spend a lot of time in my pajamas. My dream is to trade it all in and write about wine and/or technology, but that doesn’t exactly come easy. Maybe I’ll get lucky and one day stumble upon the perfect job combining the two. In the meantime, I write this blog.

I’m not a sommelier or a wine expert. I’m a consumer – just like you. I firmly believe that you should drink what you like, no matter what anyone else says. I also think that numerical wine rating scales (particularly 100 point scales) are useless. How do you relate to a number? I’ve always rated wines by how happy they make me, thus the Happy Face Wine Scale was born.

Every now and then, my husband Kevin will chime in with a blog post. He focuses more on beer and spirits than I do (although we are equal opportunity drinkers!). Why does he not write much? Well, his real-world job in interactive marketing keeps him pretty busy.  Kevin and I have been married since August of 2003, when we said our wedding vows in Spanish on a Dominican Republic beach. We don’t know Spanish, so maybe we actually own a cow.

I try to keep this blog updated and interesting. Back in 2005, I noticed there was very little information on the countless wine tastings that regularly occur in the Cincinnati area. Cincinnati is also experiencing a renaissance in dining, with a slew of one-word restaurants popping up all over the place (Mesh, Nectar, Honey, Nada, etc) and the Midwest Culinary Institute thriving in Clifton. With fine dining comes fine wine and wine events. I’ve made it my goal to track them all. Of course, I know I’m missing things, so please email me and I’ll add it to the calendar.

While the wine shipping laws may be convoluted in our neck of the woods, which includes both Kentucky and Ohio, the eating and drinking are good. I invite you to join me as I discover more about wine and more about the wine opportunities right here in our hometown.

Cheers,

Michelle
