It's a slow week for one-time events, but don't forget all of the recurring events, including tastings at Little Sonoma, Cork n Bottle, Dilly Deli, and Liquor Direct.
There are two items I want to which I want to call your attention. First, this is the last weekend to enjoy the music and wine at Harmony Hill before they close for the season. So get yourself out to Bethel (it's not that far off 275) and enjoy the Farmer's Market, wine, and great songs.
Next, tonight is the first of the recurring tastings at Water Tower Fine Wines. I think you'll find their selection is a little bit different from other wine shops, so swing by tonight between 5:30 and 8:30 pm to find out more and help support the new guy on the block.
Remember, all the recurring events, those dependable weekly tastings,
are displayed on our calendar. The one-time events are after the jump.
There's
a good chance I missed something, as my schedule has been
out-of-control this week (real life and all), so just email me or list
it in the comments.

By the time you read this, I'll be on a plane to San Francisco. I'm taking a quick trip, staying with my wine blogger friend Thea, and speaking at the BlogHer Food conference. I'm back early Monday.
Just because I'm in the City by the Bay doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy the fantastic wine events happening this weekend, although the rest of the week is pretty light.

Wow! We've got one-of-a-kind wine events every day but Monday this week! You have no excuse to stay home, other than that you're exhausted from so many events.
Some notes of interest: Oktoberfest is this weekend (in case you live under a rock and didn't know). Additionally, Greater Cincinnati Independents Restaurant Week is this wrapping up tonite, Saturday, and Sunday. And of course, if you've got a motorcycle, please join us to support the Krystal Pepper Memorial Scholarship Fund on Saturday with our first annual motorcycle run and poker scramble.
Also on Saturday, there's a special event out at Harmony Hill Winery. In addition to the Farmer's Market and live music, you can also adopt a dog. They're big animal lovers at Harmony Hill (as am I) and they're hosting a Labrador Retriever Rescue of Cincinnati satellite Adopt-A-Pet location. I am actually glad I can't go – who knows how many adorable dogs I'd come with … You can hang out with some adorable dogs from 2-6 pm.

See that Sad Mac? That's where I've spent my week. Only today – Friday – am I finally getting back on track. If you have a Mac, I recommend waiting a month or so – when the new updates come out – before upgrading to Snow Leopard.
And my huge thanks to the guys at the Apple Store who got my Mail up and running again. Sheesh!
My big recommendation for this week happens tomorrow but yes! you can still get a seat! Better yet, it's only $20 AND you get a $5 gift card. Winemaker Alfredo Bartholomaus will be The Party Source, 1-3 pm tomorrow, teaching a Malbec Blending Seminar. I did this last year (and will be there tomorrow). You learn how to blend flavors to make the perfect wine. Or rather, he makes a pretty perfect wine. You (and me)? Well, it's fun to try.
The other thing I want to point out is Restaurant Week. I would have written a post on it, but well, the computer … Greater Cincinnati Independents is sponsoring Restaurant Week Sept 14 – 20. There are 33 locally owned restaurants participating. This differs from the most recent restaurant week, which focused on downtown. This is [almost] better, as it focuses on locally owned places, no matter where in town they're located. Support the little guy! The web site offers all the necessary information.

Riverfest. Really, why do anything else? But if you do want to find an alternative, we've got a few suggestions for you.
Most of our local wineries will be open on Saturday and Labor Day Monday, so make a day of it. But call first to confirm times for Monday. Make sure to visit Harmony Hill, Kinkead Ridge (who will be debuting their 2007 reds), Meranda-Nixon, La Vigna, and Lakeside. In nearby Kentucky, you can visit Elk Creek and Stonebrook.
Want to know more about our local wineries? Here's a great interview with Bill Skvarla, owner & winemaker at Harmony Hill, via Clermont Today (airing this month on Warner ch 22).
